ABOUT OUR LIBRARY
The Barry's Bay Public Library was established in 1960 and
through the years has seen much growth not only in content, but in
its physical facilities. The building now located on the Opeongo
Line has expanded twice since 1973 and our book
circulation increased from 4,998 in 1962 to 30,251 in 1995.
Our library has become an integral part of the community's
life here in Barry's Bay. It sponsors special programs throughout
the year including the Chris Pilsworth Magic Show and Roy Campbell's
Circus Delights (in conjunction with the Sherwood-Bay Arena) and
Canadian authors Sandra Gulland, Brian Doyle and Lala Heine-Koehn
have made special appearances at our library. During the winter,
Craft and Story Hours for children are held and special summer
activities are sponsored for children as well.
Our Librarian since 1981, Ms. Angela Lorbetskie, kindly
provided us with an accounting of the History
of Barry's Bay. You may peruse this interesting historical
accounting of the beginnings.
We have also reproduced several of our librarys documents
which were originally published orally by a few of our local
citizens. These tales from the past are wonderfully told and should
not be missed!
